Strengthening Livelihood Through Enterprise Expansion

Chitra lives in Aadhanur village of Tharangapadi in Mayiladuthurai district and is the mother of two daughters. With the aspiration to improve her family’s economic condition, she accessed a ₹1,00,000 loan through Valar 2010 Mutual Benefit Trust. She has been running a grocery store, and with the support received, she invested half of the loan amount in expanding and stocking her shop.

Her grocery store now earns her a daily profit of ₹5,000, enabling her to comfortably meet her daughters’ educational expenses and all household needs. The villagers rely on her shop for their daily essentials, as she ensures that almost everything they require is available.

Alongside the grocery business, Chitra also provides catering services, further strengthening her income. Her husband works in the tiles work, earning ₹1,600 to ₹2,000 per day, adding stability to the household. With income from both her grocery store and catering work, Chitra is saving diligently to purchase a mini load carrier, which will help her transport grocery stock and deliver catering orders more efficiently.

Today, Chitra leads a confident and progressive life. She expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Valar 2010 Mutual Benefit Trust for providing the financial support that has strengthened her livelihood and empowered her family’s future.
